The Garden Kitchen® Restaurant is located in a 150 year Old house. Its colonial dining rooms and terraced gardens provide a restful ambiance for informal dining.

The narrow stone and brick stairway at 404 Mill Street opens to a huge garden away from the bustling street. The beautifully maintained flowers and trees around the terrace and patios provide a perfect outdoor dining spot. It is the best place to relax during your visit to the historic town of Occoquan.

The restaurant has been in operation since 1974. The dining room overlooking the street is finished with white wicker and colonial furniture. The main dining room is done in white and yellow in early American style. The third dining room is intimately seated in café  style. The Garden Kitchen®  has always been committed to maintaining an easygoing homely atmosphere.

The old house is a notable example of colonial construction. The structure has been held together since the 1850's with tongue in groove joints and no nails. The house was Occoquan's first pharmacy. In addition to dispensing medicine, owner Mr. Hammill used to tell his customers fascinating stories of the Civil War. The house was destined to be a meeting place for the people of Occoquan.

Dr. Hornbaker lived and practiced in the building . A portrait of Grace Clarke Hornbaker ( 1887 -1968) can be viewed on the wall of the main dining room. She lived at 404 Mill St. from 1937 -1967.

The Garden Kitchen® , in this age of fast food places, is unique in providing an atmosphere with a menu of wholesome, satisfying and mostly home baked food. The Garden Kitchen®  is historic Occoquan !
